Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about your Hangzhou journey

Is Hangzhou worth visiting?
Absolutely. UNESCO-listed West Lake, a 1,700-year-old temple carved into a mountainside, the birthplace of China's most famous green tea — and a pace of life that feels a world apart from Shanghai. When Marco Polo arrived in the 13th century, he described Hangzhou as "the most beautiful and magnificent city in the world." The Song Dynasty emperors chose it as their capital for a reason.
What is Hangzhou known for?
West Lake (a UNESCO World Heritage site), Longjing (Dragon Well) green tea — considered China's finest, Lingyin Temple — one of the country's largest Buddhist temples, silk production, and its legacy as the capital of the Southern Song Dynasty (1127–1279), a golden age of Chinese art and culture.
When is the best time to visit Hangzhou?
Spring (March–May) for cherry blossoms and comfortable temperatures (15–25°C). Autumn (September–November) for crystalline skies and the fragrance of osmanthus flowers. Summer lotus blooms on West Lake are spectacular but it's hot and humid (28–36°C). Winter brings mist, solitude, and the poetic "Broken Bridge in Snow" — one of the Ten Scenes of West Lake.
How many days should I spend in Hangzhou?
Two to three days is ideal. One day covers the three essentials — West Lake, Lingyin Temple, and Longjing tea. Add a day for a water town like Wuzhen. Add another to simply wander — mornings of tea, afternoons of discovery, evenings by the lake.
Which water town near Hangzhou is best?
Wuzhen is the most famous — a thousand-year-old canal town 80 km away. Tangqi (28 km) is nearest and free to enter. Nanxun is the most peaceful, with unique East-meets-West mansions from the silk trade era.
How do I get to Hangzhou from Shanghai?
The high-speed train takes just 45 minutes from Shanghai Hongqiao Station to Hangzhou East Station — trains run every 15–30 minutes. We can arrange round-trip tickets and have a guide meet you at the platform.
How do I get to Hangzhou from other cities?
Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport (HGH) connects to major Asian hubs. High-speed trains connect Hangzhou to Beijing (4.5–6 hours), Xi'an (6.5–7.5 hours), and Nanjing (1 hour). The city has excellent transportation links.
