Archaeological Ruins of Liangzhu City

The Archaeological Ruins of Liangzhu City (良渚古城遗址), inscribed to the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List in July 2019, is a must-visit for history lovers who want to trace Chinese civilization back over 5,000 years. Located about 20 km from central Hangzhou, the site includes palace foundations, an ancient dam system, and exquisite jade artifacts that demonstrate a highly sophisticated Neolithic culture. The Liangzhu Museum on site provides excellent context. This is one of China's most important archaeological discoveries — evidence of an early state-level society that predates the Xia Dynasty.
